  • General information on using the Me Luna® menstrual cup Before using the Me Luna® for the first time, it should be sterilized in plenty of boiling water for about 3 minutes. In further use, at the latest after the period or additionally shortly before, also boil or sterilize.
During menstruation, it is sufficient to clean them with toilet paper, a damp cleaning cloth or running water after they have been emptied. Then it can be used again.
Make sure you always empty your menstrual cup with clean hands.
Inserting the Me Luna® menstrual cup To insert, fold the Me Luna® in the most comfortable way for you. Here we show you three examples of possible folds. There are also a number of other ways to fold a menstrual cup.
It is particularly "good" if there is still some air left in the folded Me Luna®. During insertion, the vaginal wall presses against the Me Luna® from the outside and does not allow air to enter. The Me Luna® can only unfold properly if there is sufficient air.
    Folding Techniques:
C-Fold A simple method. Flatten the Me Luna® and then place both sides on top of each other.
Punchdown Convolution This folding technique is a bit more sophisticated. Press down (and in) the rim of the Me Luna® in one place with your thumb. Big advantage of this method: A lot of air remains inside the Me Luna®. This allows it to unfold better after insertion.
S fold Works well with large sizes such as Me Luna® L and XL. Flatten the Me Luna® and fold the edge in a zigzag, like an S.
Now hold the folded cup and insert it, folded side first, into the vagina. You can do this, for example, sitting on the toilet, standing or crouching - depending on what you find more comfortable.
If you have trouble inserting it, a water-based lubricating gel can help. You will quickly find out the optimal fit of the Me Luna® by trying it out. Some women prefer to place it just in front of the cervix, while others prefer it to be positioned far forward at the entrance to the vagina.
The Me Luna® should not be too close to the entrance of the vagina, otherwise it could be uncomfortable, for example when sitting.
Placing the menstrual cup correctly To avoid leakage, check after insertion that the menstrual cup has unfolded correctly. You can determine this by turning the cup or by running your finger around the rim.
Due to the movement of the vaginal muscles, it is possible that the Me Luna® changes its position slightly. This does not affect functionality or wearing comfort.
How long can the Me Luna® stay in the vagina? The Me Luna® can remain in the vagina for 8-12 hours. It is usually sufficient if you empty your Me Luna® 2 to 4 times a day. Since the menstrual flow varies from woman to woman and also during the cycle, the wearing time also varies.
At the beginning it is recommended to empty the Me Luna® at similar intervals as you previously changed tampons or pads. This is the best way to get a feeling for how often emptying is actually necessary.
The menstrual cup can be worn both during the day and at night, but it should be emptied after 8 to 12 hours at the latest. It is not necessary to take out the Me Luna® when going to the toilet.
Removing the Me Luna® Clean your hands thoroughly before removing the Me Luna®. Get into a comfortable position, preferably a squatting position. Press the Me Luna® outwards, primarily using the pelvic floor muscles.
Use your fingers to feel for the end of the menstrual cup and gently pull on the Me Luna® handle. Then grasp the entire lower end of the Me Luna® and gently press it in, thus releasing the slight negative pressure.
Please do not just pull the handle of the Me Luna® (ring) without working with the pelvic floor. The end serves to be able to grip/hold the cup better, not to pull the cup out completely.
It's important to be patient the first few times you use it - it takes practice to change cups with ease. Keep calm and relaxed.
After removing the Me Luna®, empty and clean it. You can then use the Me Luna® again.
Tips and tricks If you encounter difficulties when trying to use a menstrual cup for the first time, keep calm. Please keep in mind that the application requires a certain amount of practice. Even if you have used tampons in the past, the routine you have acquired with them cannot be transferred one-to-one to a menstrual cup.
In most cases (>95%!) it is really due to improper handling if the Me Luna® is difficult to insert or does not hold tight. Please also keep in mind that it takes most women up to 3 cycles to use a menstrual cup correctly.
There are a few helpful tricks you should try if the insertion and unfolding of the Me Luna® are not yet working properly: The folding technique: Try to fold the Me Luna® so that there is still air in it. Punchdown folding is a good method. Try different techniques.
Insertion is easier if the Me Luna® is moistened with water. Lubricants can also be used as an insertion aid. Work with the pelvic floor to place the Me Luna® correctly: after insertion, press down with the pelvic floor, i.e. push the Me Luna® back slightly again.
Or use your hand to pull the Me Luna® outwards again and push it in again.
Rinse the Me Luna® with cold water before inserting. The material of the Me Luna® becomes slightly softer when warm. When the material is cold, the clamping force increases. So she can pop up better.
