  • Dry eye is usually a chronic disease that should be treated early to avoid secondary damage. Medical wetting solutions with hyaluronic acid - such as VISMED® - have proven themselves for more than 20 years. The preparation is free of preservatives and therefore very well tolerated. VISMED® can also be used for daily moistening in the case of chronic complaints with damaged lacrimal glands.

VISMED with 0.18% hyaluronic acid, hyaluronic acid is an endogenous substance that, as part of the tear fluid, ensures that moisture is stored and nutrients can be transported. With their special physical and chemical properties, bio-technologically produced hyaluronic acid solutions are similar to natural tear fluid. They are therefore very popular in ophthalmology to treat dry eye. The product VISMED® contains 0.18% hyaluronic acid.

Dry eye or keratoconjunctivitis sicca is a widespread disease in Germany and affects 15 - 17% of the total population. The dry eye is a disorder of the tear film and the surface of the eye caused by many factors. The tear fluid is essential for the health of our eyes as it wets the surface of the eye, keeps it smooth and supple, flushes out foreign bodies and fends off bacterial infections. It also supplies the cornea and conjunctiva with oxygen and nutrients. If the quality or quantity of the tear fluid is disturbed, the subjectively disturbing symptoms arise.

These include tired, burning, itchy and scratchy eyes, increased flow of tears, sensitivity to light, reddening of the conjunctiva and a feeling of dryness.

    Hormonal changes
Pregnant women and women going through menopause are subject to hormonal fluctuations and changes. These can promote dry eyes and cause unpleasant symptoms.

    Illnesses
Different risk factors influence the production of tear fluid. These include, for example, diabetes mellitus, dermatological and rheumatic diseases, and irradiation of the head. The use of certain medications can also have a negative effect on the tear film.

    Environmental factors
smoke, ozone, wind, dust and cold influence the quality and quantity of the tear film. Dry heating air and staying in air-conditioned rooms can also promote dry eyes.

    Screen activities
The terms “Office Eye Syndrome” and “Gamer Eye” are well known. They apply to people who look at the screen constantly and for a long time. As a result, the tear fluid is distributed worse and the affected people complain of dry eyes.

  • Unscrew the cap of the ampoule, tilt your head back slightly and hold the dropper opening over the eye to be treated. With the index finger of one hand, pull the lower lid of the eye downwards.

A drop of the VISMED® solution is released by pressing gently. Unless otherwise recommended by the doctor, add 1-2 drops of VISMED® to the conjunctival sac as required. Do not bring the dropper tip into contact with the eye or touch it with your fingers. With the blink of an eye, the solution is distributed evenly and forms a transparent and durable layer of liquid on the surface of the eye. Do not use damaged ampoules.
