The Manuka plant is a traditional healing tree of the New Zealand natives (Maori). It has been used to combat wound infections, bladder diseases, stomach and intestinal complaints and colds.
What does "MGO" mean?
MGO stands for Methylglyoxal, the naturally occurring compound that distinguishes Manuka Honey from other honeys and makes it so special. The manufacturer's research partners, the scientists at TU Dresden, discovered Methylglyoxal (MGO) as the decisive active ingredient in Manuka Honey.
In 2008, Manuka Health pioneered the development and introduction of MGO certification for Manuka Honey using the TU Dresden method. Manuka Health's MGO certification means that every jar of honey in New Zealand is tested and certified for its MGO strength, purity and quality using Prof. Henle's method.
Recommendation: To strengthen the immune system or to help with colds and infections, it is best to take a teaspoon at least once a day. You can also stir the Manuka Honey into hot tea or milk, because the active ingredient MGO is largely insensitive to heat. It is most effective pure, as slowly as possible from the spoon lick (as with ice cream, only much healthier!) - spoon for spoon delicious!
