Intolerance to fructose?

Many people suffer from food intolerance - according to the German Nutrition Society, almost a third of Germans are affected by fructose malabsorption and cannot absorb fructose properly. The result can be abdominal pain, nausea and disturbed intestinal function. With fructose malabsorption, the yoghurt with fruit and honey or the glass of orange juice are usually not a good idea. This is because fructose cannot be absorbed properly due to a malfunction of the transport protein GLUT-5 in the mucous membrane of the small intestine. Instead, it travels undigested into the large intestine, where it is broken down by bacteria. This produces gases that can lead to discomfort.
