Manuka honey is found almost exclusively in New Zealand.
Manuka honey is obtained in New Zealand's remote, pristine forest regions from the nectar of the flowers of New Zealand's Manuka smokers. Manuka Honey is known worldwide for its characteristic, full-bodied, intense flavour and unique aroma. While the antibacterial properties of all types of honey have been known for centuries, laboratory studies have shown that Manuka Honey in particular has remarkable antibacterial properties that only occur in plants of the genus Leptospermum.
UMF = "Unique Manuka Factor" UMF is a measure of the unique antibacterial activity of Manuka, which is naturally present in Manuka Honey to varying degrees and thus not found in other honeys.UMF (Unique Manuka Factor) characterizes the antibacterial effect of the Manuka honey used in comparison to a correspondingly concentrated phenol solution as standard.
UMF® is clearly indicated on the front label. UMF Manuka Honey is filled into jars and labelled directly in New Zealand.
MGO = Methylglyoxal
The MGO value (Methylglyoxal) only defines the presence of the MGO in the used Manuka Honey. MGO is an antibacterial substance, but only one (!) of many components that stand for the manifold effect of Manuka Honey. -
