Rockrose is a bushy shrub with dog rose-like flowers and thrives on the dry, lime-poor soils of the garrigue and macchia of the Mediterranean region.
Rockrose is one of the famous aromatic substances of antiquity, it was used as a smoke and to prevent diseases. In perfumery it is used in (oriental) perfumes, soaps and also in food flavoring.
Naturopathy uses cistus in the treatment of skin and lymph.
